A little more national love for G-Force

Posted by Sup on January 22, 2010

It has taken a while to get past the “underrated” tag, but the folks at ESPN are starting to pay attention to the kind of player Gerald Wallace is. Marc Stein believes:

This much is clear: Charlotte has to have an All-Star for the first time. Has to. The problem is picking between Wallace and newcomer Stephen Jackson, whom Wallace himself credits as a chief spark (see Box 4) in Charlotte’s most successful half-season in franchise history. Wallace, though, makes it tough — even for this longtime Jack fan — to give the spot to anyone else.

Folks, I love Gerald Wallace. I once said this:

“Watching him jump out of the gym for a block or a dunk lights up the dark places in my heart (even if watching that corkscrew jumper of his makes me die a little every time).”

He should go because of things like this:

and this:

and these:

I could go on, but you know the deal. He must be Charlotte’s first All-Star representative since Baron Davis for the Hornets in 2002.

Also, don’t miss the article from TrueHoop’s Kevin Arnovitz.

You know it’s hard to believe that the brain trust in Sacramento left him unprotected in 2004. If I recall correctly a few writers at the time commented that “they might end up regretting that decision” – bit of an understatement, eh?

Remember then, they had the choice of exposing Wallace or Chris Webber’s monster contract, and somehow chose Wallace. From NBA.com:

During his three years in Sacramento, Wallace never got much playing time on one of the NBA’s deepest squads, averaging only 9.7 minutes. But he has displayed exceptional athleticism in his ability to slash to the rim for thunderous dunks, and in his one start in 2003-04, he posted 16 points and 11 rebounds. Bickerstaff, however, believes Wallace can be an effective contributor at the other end of the floor, telling Bobcats.com, “He’s hopefully a player who will be able to take on the challenge of being a defensive stopper for us.”

      Well….yeah.
